CAT VACCINES

CAT VACCINES

A basic vaccination course will cover your cat against cat flu and feline infectious enteritis, and is suitable for indoor cats. However, if your cat has access to the outdoors and contact with other cats we recommend more comprehensive protection against feline leukaemia virus(FeLV) in addition to flu and enteritis.

Circumstances can change and if you were to move to a locality more suited to an outdoor cat updating your cats vaccinations may not be the first thing on your mind! If in doubt we would always recommend to vaccinate against feline leukaemia virus.

PRIMARY VACCINATIONS

Vaccinations for kittens can start from nine weeks of age with a second vaccination between three & four weeks later. Kittens should be kept isolated until at least one week after their second vaccination to allow protective antibodies to build up.

BOOSTER VACCINATIONS

Immunity from vaccinations as a kitten will not last a lifetime and annual booster vaccinations are recommended. Most catteries will insist your cat’s vaccinations are kept up to date.

OTHER VACCINES AVAILABLE

Vaccination against rabies is mandatory for cats travelling abroad on the PETS scheme
