Thank you for all your understanding through these unprecedented times. We have certainly seen a lot of changes to how we work and interact with our clients, as most businesses have.
We want to explain where we are up to and how it could affect you.
All of our surgeries are now open, though our opening times have temporarily changed at some branches.
WE ARE OFFERING OUR FULL RANGE OF MEDICAL SERVICES FOR PETS, INCLUDING VACCINATIONS AND NEUTERING
Social Distancing at Stanley House Vets
We currently have strict social distancing measures in place across all of our surgeries for both staff and clients.
If you are visiting any of our surgeries to collect medication, parasite treatment, food or to pay for your appointment or treatment:
- Please wear a face covering, unless exempt, and use the provided hand sanitiser upon entry.
- Do not enter the surgery if there are more than 2 people already in the reception waiting area.
- Please maintain at least 2-meters distance apart from any staff and other clients.
Due to the nature of our jobs, vets and nurses cannot always keep 2 metres apart for less than 15 minutes and comply to social distancing measures. Our staff may occasionally be within 2 meters when an animal is being examined and frequently when undergoing surgery.
In addition to wanting our staff to remain healthy we also need to minimise the impact of how many staff we would need to send home, should one member of staff contract Coronavirus. We have applied a test and trace system within our practice to help manage this. This, coupled with socially distancing measure in place, means we are not yet functioning at our normal capacity.
If you can please bear with us and show understanding if we are unable to book non urgent appointments and operations in at short notice. We have employed a new vet on a fixed term contract to help us get through the back log of routine worked due to being in lock down.
If your pet is poorly:
The first thing we will do is assess is if we can help your pet remotely. You may be offered a telephone consult in the first instance. Phone consultations are great for more minor problems that your pet may have. If we cannot help with the problem remotely you will be offered an appointment and your animal will be examined by a vet. The cost of the phone consult will be deducted from the cost of your pet seeing a vet should this proves necessary.
You can call or email Colne, Burnley or Barnoldswick.

When you do make an appointment, things are a little different. We have a COVID-19 Appointment Guide that must be read prior to your appointment or booking an appointment online.
Appointment procedure:
- Please ensure that you provide us with a correct mobile number and that you bring this mobile with you to your appointment so we are able to contact you.
- Please arrive 5 minutes before your appointment time and stay in your car, you do not need to call us to let us know that you have arrived. The vet will call you.
If the vet has not called you 5 minutes after your appointment time please contact the surgery and let the receptionist know that you are waiting for the vet to call you.
- When the vet first calls you, they will want to discuss your pet’s clinical history and the nature of the appointment.
- The vet will then tell you which door a member of staff will meet you at to collect your pet from you.
- The vet will then examine your pet in a consult room whilst you wait in your car. Waiting in your car will help with social distancing and avoid people congregating at our doors.
- Once your pet has been examined, the vet will call you back to discuss your pet’s health and finally arrange a collection point.
When collecting your pet, you will be required to go to reception to settle your account and collect any medication that your pet may need.
- Please wear a face covering, unless exempt, and use the provided hand sanitiser upon entry.
- Do not enter the surgery if there are more than 2 people already in the reception waiting area.
- Please maintain at least 2-meters distance apart from any staff and other clients.
You may be asked to pay in advance by credit card for routine treatments to save time when you come to the surgery.
If you have symptoms of Covid-19, we would ask that all non-urgent appointments are rearranged for at least 7 days after your symptoms started. If the appointment is an emergency and we would need to see your pet, we will need to take extra precautions and ask that you arrange for someone else to bring your pet to the surgery.
Vaccinations:
We did continue sending booster reminders out for the majority of lockdown. Understandably, you may not have been able to leave your home or you simply may not have felt comfortable leaving your home. If your pet has missed a vaccination, we do encourage you to make an appointment as soon as you can.
You can do this by clicking here or by contacting us by telephone. If you book your pet in for a vaccination you are required to read our Covid-19 appointment guide.
Covid-19 Vaccine Amnesty:
Cats and dogs that are overdue their booster vaccination by 3 months or more will need to restart the vaccination course which requires 2 injections over 2 appointments.
We will be offering the 2nd part of the vaccination course FREE OF CHARGE in August & September 2020.
Further information and eligibility criteria can be found here
For Pet Health Plan Clients
If you have missed out on a 6 month check we can start to book these in now. However, if it is getting close to your pet’s booster, they do get a health check at that time so unless you are worried about your pet you are not going to gain an awful lot from bringing them in just before a booster. Therefore, we will give you a free consultation next time you need one.
We do have a dedicated Pet Health Plan Co-ordinator Gemma. Gemma is working from home at the moment. If you have any queries or questions you can contact her via email gemmaa@stanleyhousevets.co.uk
If you are not yet a member of our health plan here is a link to our online leaflet. You get the peace of mind you are giving your pet the routine care it needs and save money too. It’s a great way to budget too as you pay for routine preventative treatment by a monthly direct debit payment.
If you would like to join simply email gemmaa@stanleyhousevets.co.uk who will discuss the plan with you in detail to ensure that it is right for you and your pet then sign you up if you wish.
Thank you for your understanding
